MindFit
You’ve already made the decision to make a huge life change and that’s pretty amazing! Now let’s take your resolve to the next level.
Mindful
Sometimes we rush through life without really thinking about what we’re going through and what’s going on around us. Being mindful isn’t hard, but we have to slow down a bit to be able to appreciate its benefits.
Here’s some tips to get you started, if you pick up at least a few of them you’re onto something.
- Never value anything because of how much, or how little, it costs.
- Don’t expect the worst. At minimum, stay neutral.
- Don’t miss an opportunity to compliment someone, say thanks, or express affection.
- Pause periodically during the day and observe your own breath.
- Any time you can spend making friends or nurturing relationships is the most worthwhile way you can spend your time.
BodyFit
We’re not saying you need to be a fitness model, unless that’s your goal of course, we just want you to feel good about yourself and enjoy a fit, healthy life. If you don’t have a gym pass or haven’t really gotten into the fitness world start off slow in the comfort of your own home! There are so many online workout videos that you can do for free, never mind using weights and equipment right in your living room!
You don’t need big bucks to get yourself started on a fitness routine, pick up a cheap skipping rope and do this 20 minute workout tonight.
5 minutes: double-leg jumps
Jump continuously at a steady pace. Keep shoulder blades down and back, chest lifted, and jump softly. Swing the jump rope with wrists, not arms.
45 seconds: plank
Bring elbows directly under shoulders, nose directly over thumbs and feet shoulder width apart. Draw belly button up and in. Keep legs engaged the entire time. Take deep breaths.
2 minutes: single-leg jumps
Jump continuously on one leg for 30 seconds. Switch to other leg for 30 seconds. Repeat one more time, 30 seconds each leg. Keep leg that is lifted in front of leg that is jumping. Try to switch feet without stopping.
2 minutes: double-leg jumps
Jump continuously as fast as possible. Make sure feet are not pounding on the ground and chest stays lifted.
45 seconds: opposite arm/leg extensions
Come onto hands and knees with wrists directly under shoulders and knees under hips. Extend left leg only up to hip height as you extend right arm up next to your ear. Come back to center and switch side. Lift right leg up only to hip height as you lift left arm up next to your ear. Come back to center and continue to alternate for 45 seconds. Make sure to keep core engaged and shoulders down and back the entire time.
Repeat the entire circuit one more time (2x total).
FoodFit
It can be daunting jumping into the world of healthy eating, everyone has an opinion and facts are changing all of the time. We’re not asking you to be a FoodFit guru here, but at least make a few healthy changes and add some pep to your step!
One of our favorite ways to add vitamin rich fruits and veggies to your diet is to drink a smoothie every day. The variations are as endless as the recipes you can find online, just find something you like and give it a shot! Here’s a cool grid you can use to create your own recipes:
No matter where you start in your LifeFit journey, be proud that you’ve made the choice to switch things up a bit! When you’ve made some progress make sure you pop into the OYNB store and show off that pride with one of our shirts!
Testimonial
Loving life, & not missing the booze one little bit. Woke up at 6am each morning this week to run & I’ve started a beginners meditation course. Something I’ve wanted to try since… Forever. I have an upcoming night out that I’m not even worrying about because I feel strong enough to not have a drink(I’ll be doubly prepared just in case). So glad to finally have made this positive change. Love reading everyone’s stories, the continuous support and daily ‘affirmations’. Thanks OYNB & troops – Loren
An entrepreneur and former senior oil broker, Ruari gave up drinking after excessive consumption almost cost him his marriage, and worse, his life. Going alcohol-free improved his relationships, career and energy levels, leading to him founding OYNB to provide a support network for others.
