As we contemplate the reality of being at home for the foreseeable future, now is the perfect opportunity for us to invest in our personal development, set a goal and push ourselves to achieve it.
Nothing worth having or pursuing in life comes easily and we have to be prepared to work hard for what we want. Without working on ourselves and building towards our goals, we cannot expect for these achievements to simply materialise around us. That is why you, and your self-development is the most important thing you can spend your time, energy and money on.
It can be difficult to ‘find the time’ to dedicate to self-development activities as our attention is required by other people or commitments in our very fast-paced society, but as the world around us takes a pause, we can take this as an opportunity to observe our lives as they are, and plan for the future we want.
What do we mean by ‘self-development’?
The term ‘self-development’ can be considered a little ‘airy fairy’, but what we mean by this is the process of self-evaluation, goal setting and creating actions to maximise your potential. Learning how to observe your own behaviour, how it impacts your life and those around you and then making positive changes to resolve or improve your daily life.
Ultimately, self-development and its results can enhance our quality of life and increase our happiness. It is the ‘creation of an authentic life’ – one that’s unique to us, our dreams, passions and needs.
The importance of formulating a plan
When approaching self-development, it is all well and good to identify which aspect of your life you want to improve, but it is a totally different ball game to actually create a plan and achieve what you set out to, and for this to be a lasting change. This is where developing a plan or framework for how you’re going to reach your goals is important.
You are around 1.5 times more likely to stick to something if you write it down, so imagine how much more likely you are to achieve your goals if you clearly plan out each of the steps to get to where you need to be? By detailing out your goals and how you’re going to achieve them, you are encoding this plan into your mind, constantly reminding yourself of what you want from life, which helps you to notice the opportunities that present themselves to you.
In addition, your chances of success can further increase if you share your commitments with a friend who can hold you accountable to your progress. You’re likely to have an even greater chance of success if you set a timeframe to achieve your goals, and regularly check in with your accountability partner or group!
This might sound like a daunting task – how do you plan how you’re going to achieve your goals in life? And who can you make sure will hold you accountable for these plans? This is where it can be beneficial to enlist the help of a coach, or take part in a course such as MasterMind.
What is MasterMind?
OYNB developed the MasterMind course due to the demand in the OYNB community for guidance for the ‘what’s next?’ part after going alcohol-free.
Many people reach the point where they feel comfortable in the outcome of their AF challenge, and are now looking to continue with the MEND habit change framework that they have discovered through their challenge into other areas that they can improve. There are no restrictions or limits on what you could aim for next, and the MasterMind course is designed to help you figure out how to create a roadmap for your next self-development project.
MasterMind has helped hundreds of our members satisfy their hunger for personal development and growth. From authoring their own book, starting businesses to achieving their fitness goals, our members have used MasterMind to unlock their will-power and realise their full potential.
But don’t take our word for it, here is some of the feedback we received from previous MasterMind course graduates:
“I absolutely loved MM and would recommend to anyone who is looking to really do some deep work to identify who they are and what’s important to them. After the course I now have a life force statement, my own personal affirmation that guides me every day. I’ve honed in on a goal that I’ve been wanting to achieve for a while, and I am smashing it! Best of all, I’ve made connections that will last far beyond the 6 week course. If you are thinking about the course, do it. Invest in yourself and the person you want to become!”
Jennifer
“It's a great course that has helped me develop the skills to make changes to my life. I've also learnt a lot about motivation and about focus. I think I'll keep using these skills from now on – so it's been a great learning experience.”

Why is now the best time to invest in yourself?
Amongst all of the confusion and uncertainty in the world at this moment in time, there is one thing you can be sure you can rely on, yourself. By taking this time, when many of us are likely spending less time out socialising, and more time at home looking for new hobbies, to dedicate to self-improvement, you are giving yourself the best chance to hit the ground running when all the dust settles. By doing so, you can create a strong and secure foundation on which you can build future opportunities, and confidence in your abilities to prosper and achieve goals.
If ever there is a time to be inspired, inspire others and be empowered to find out what your full potential is, it’s now.
For every perceived weakness you overcome, you gain strength, and that's a continual source of inspiration and motivation to spur you onwards. Being proactive in your approach to self-development, improving your skills, knowledge and experience can only help to propel you in the right direction. Take control of your life, and steer it in the direction of your goals.
